Setting Up Your Bass For the First Time
Setting up your Bass is easy. First, take it out of the case and sit it on your lap. Does it have at least 4 strings? If it does, you’re good. If you don’t have an amplifier, you’re ready to play. If you do have an amp, plug it in. Leave the amp OFF and find your instrument cable with a ¼ inch jack on each side. It should look something like this:
Take your instrument (guitar) cord and plug one end into the Bass “Input Jack” and the other into the amplifiers main input channel. MAKE SURE the amp is off when plugging the guitar in! Once your Bass is plugged in, turn the power switch on the amp to the ON position.
You’re almost ready to go. All you have to do is make a few adjustments. On the body of your Bass there should be a few knobs… there should be at least one anyway. On most Basses, you’ll have a volume control knob then one tone control knob for each set of pick-ups. Some also have an over-all tone control as well. I suggest looking your Bass model up on the manufacturers web site to confirm the knob functions if you can’t figure them out on your own.
That’s it. You’re ready to play!
