Setting Up Your Amp For the First Time
There are a hundred different Bass Amps out there. A few things that most of them have in common are a Master Volume, Treble, Mid, Bass and some also have a "Pre-amp Gain" control. Here’s what all those things do:
- Master Volume: Controls the volume of the signal (generated from your Bass) that is coming out of your speaker(s).
- Treble: Functions as an analogue treble equalizer for your amp... it makes the higher sounds coming out of your speaker more pronounced.
- Mid: Controls the equalization of the mid-range tones coming out of your speaker(s).
- Bass: Controls the equalization of the low-end tones coming out of your speaker(s).
- Pre-amp Gain: Pre-amp Gain is like a volume control that adjusts the volume of the signal before it goes through the amps equalizer and amplification wiring. A Pre-amp can provide additional tone shaping, allowing you to send an overloaded signal through the amp, creating some mild distortion.
Those are the basics for almost every amp out there. If you’d like some personal guidance or have a question, just ask in the chat box and someone will get back to you.
