My name is Dave Gowans and I’ve been playing bass (on and off) since the early 1980’s. Although I did some professional work prior to 1990, a twenty year military career has prevented me from playing in many bands or doing much other than giving lessons since then.
I’ve been giving private bass lessons for about 8 years and have had a lot of success in quickly training young and beginning players to progress in playing ability far more quickly than would otherwise be possible… especially if they’re willing to practice. While giving lessons, it became apparent to me that the two things that motivated students the most were 1) seeing a visual example of the required technique or run, and 2) teaching songs that were of interest to the student.
I’ve created BlisteringBass.com to provide free video examples of techniques, songs and lessons to the thousands of aspiring bass players that find bass tabs to be tiresome. Tabs have their place, but the undervalued medium of video has come of age and it’s time to start using it. Although many of the songs that will initially be recorded will be older stuff (I am old by some peoples standards), I encourage all players to request songs that interest them. Over time, I’ll have recorded a wide range of songs that will appeal to all tastes and styles. Don’t be shy. I can figure out most songs in just a few minutes… the hard part is finding the time to record and post them.
All videos on this site are free. Private lessons are also available via Web-cam teleconference (I use Skype) for a fee. Private lessons are usually from $35 to $50 per lesson. All lessons are tailored to the immediate goal of the student. In other words… no two lessons will be the same. Contact me via email to schedule a lesson. Payments can be made via PayPal or other embedded credit card processors.
